So recently, I’ve been looking to replace my deteriorating generic rubber dome Dell keyboard with something a bit finer. I realize that since my job deals with a lot of typing I should make my working experience as enjoyable as possible. My idea is that you’ve got to spend money in order to make money, so making my job more enjoyable should also make me more productive. In theory, spending a lot of money on a luxurious keyboard should pay for itself ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). So with these excuses in mind, I went ahead and bought the Magicforce 68 key Mini Mechanical Keyboard from Amazon. You can get the Magicforce with either Cherry MX or Gateron switches, but it seems that the vendors on Amazon only stock the ones with Cherry MX switches.

For the Magicforce Mech Keyboard that I purchased, I chose Cherry MX Brown switches because I’ve never before used a Mechanical Keyboard and their different switches. I’ve done in depth research on the various types of switches available, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted something quiet with very little feedback like the Red switches. Or something with lots of tactile auditory feedback like the Blue switches. So I went ahead and chose the Brown switches because it seems that Browns were the middle of the road; quieter like the Red switches but offering the tactilility of the Blue switches.

So when I first laid my eyes on the Magicforce Mech Keyboard, I was a little skeptical that the amount I paid for this premium keyboard was justified. Although the Magicforce is a bargain compared to other similar quality mechanical keyboards that are more than $100 USD, I was looking at the purchase as a consumer who’d usually spend at most $20 on a keyboard. And here I was spending 4 times that amount. ‘It better be worth it’, I thought.

And it was. I liked that the Magicforce was backlit as it was aesthetically pleasing.

The font felt kind of cheesy in a gamer sense, but I grew fond of it after a while.

But the main attraction was how it felt to type on Mechanical Keyboard switches. I didn’t realize how good it felt until I went for a long typing session for one of my blog articles. I finally understood the hype that existed for Mechanical Key Switches. It is a totally different typing experience, one that disallows you from going back to membrane or rubber dome keyboards. It’s like… How do I describe it? It’s as if your having sex with your fingers! So satisfying like I was typing on slightly warmed butter, each keystroke ending with a buttery crunch that amazed my tactile senses. Such combination of soft and hard really makes these Browns switches a joy to use.

This is how I describe a single keystroke. But when you rain down on the keyboard with more than one stoke, it feels like a river of pleasure edging you on to perform more, so that you can keep getting the dopamine hits for every keystroke. In other words, the Mechanical keyboards are made for productivity. A dull typing task becomes so much more enjoyable with the right equipment. So that even if you don’t enjoy the subject of your work, you still do the “work” just to feel the pleasure of using such a sensual tool.

Note that I’ve never used a Mechanical Keyboard before, and they tend to be a bit higher than usual. You might need a wrist rest depending.

The keycap quality is pretty nice given that they are double-shot molds of ABS. I actually chose the backlit version because I knew they have to use 2 molds to achieve the proper transparency.

Another reason why I bought this keyboard is that the number pad is totally removed, freeing up space to leave my mouse closer to the keyboard. This means less stress on my right arm & wrist, because now my right hand should be more parallel to the front of my body. I do like that the designers chose to keep the most essential arrow keys and page up/down keys that I use often.
